Day 7 #16DaysOfActivism 2023
Join us for #16DaysOfActivism from across the Parallel Lives Network.
I’ll be interviewing network members about their particular take on activism and what it means to their cause.
The programme runs from Saturday 25th November – International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – through to Human Rights Day on Sunday 10th December.
One of the best activism-focused projects we’ve done over the last few years at the Parallel Lives Network has been the work in Iraq. Today, I recorded an interview with Dr Ahmed Bahiya to discuss the multiple barriers still facing women wanting to work in the media sector throughout Iraq and the role social media plays in bringing about meaningful change.
We also discuss the two radio courses delivered via Zoom during lockdown. These 50 local people (40 Women & 10 Men) wanted to access the media and make content on a wide-range of topics. We have helped to develop links with the local media outlets that can provide a good grounding for these women of various ages, seeking media roles.
Finally, we look back to the signing of an MOU by Ahmed as our in-country representive, with the Governor of Diwaniyah on Iraqi National Television news.
