Day 2 #16DaysOfActivism
Welcome to Day 2 of #16DaysOfActivism from across the Parallel Lives Network.
Following on from the ‘train the trainer’ workshop delivered by Tina Barton earlier in the year, I’m pleased to say we have made great steps in expanding the reach of the Bear Earth CiC period poverty training. Of the 12 Global Health Masters students who attended the session, Philomena (on the right of the images below) went on to deliver a session for 19 young adults in her community here in Leicester. She has recently been giving some advice and support to the new cohort of international students and has developed a great team with Nkoyo (on the left of the images below), another highly experienced health professional from Nigeria.
Together they recently delivered a session for 4 x CSO/CBO organisations back in Nigeria via zoom at the Documentary Media Centre. It was a fantastic session, tailored to local needs due to their extensive frontline knowledge. We are planning to deliver another session to young peer educators next so we are engaging those local ‘health influencers’ doing effective work in local communities. We look forward to welcoming the 4 organisations as members of the PL Network.
In early 2023, we will deliver a themed session for them covering mental health.
Following on from yesterday’s successful launch of The Lyme Museums‘ first pop-up exhibition, the Founder Dr. Angela Stienne took to their Instagram channel and roped me into filming a walk-around of the exhibition. Thank you for all the positive and very kind comments about the exhibition. The first of many hopefully.
On Wednesday 2nd November Tina & I attended the PAVE Conference organised by the Health & Life Sciences Faculty at De Montfort University – it was attended by 1,000 registered students and it felt like we spoke nonstop for the 5 hours we were there! We have received 9 emails following up on volunteering opportunities and we hope to engage the students in supporting our network members both here in Leicester and across the global south.
